Shaun Murphy's Spectacular 147 Break Lights Up the Masters
Shaun Murphy reached a remarkable milestone in snooker history by achieving only the sixth maximum 147 break ever recorded at the Masters. This incredible accomplishment took place during his semi-final win over Mark Allen, which concluded with a score of 6-3 in Murphy's favor, setting up a final clash with reigning world champion Kyren Wilson.
Known as "The Magician," Murphy displayed impeccable cue-ball control to complete the historic break, potting all 15 reds with 15 blacks followed by all the colors. In an interview with BBC Sport, Murphy expressed, "I can't believe it. It was an incredible moment, one of the best of my career."
A Historic Achievement at the Masters
Murphy became only the fifth player in the history of the Masters to achieve a maximum break since the tournament began in 1975. This prestigious group includes Kirk Stevens, Ding Junhui (who has done it twice), Marco Fu, and Mark Allen. His achievement marked the 210th professional 147 break and earned him a £15,000 prize for the highest break of the tournament.
At 42 years old, Murphy initially fell behind 2-0 in the match against Allen, who controlled the early tactical exchanges. However, Murphy shifted the momentum with an open third frame, leveling the match before winning four consecutive frames, including the stunning 147. Although Allen managed to close the gap with a half-century, Murphy clinched victory in the ninth frame after a tense safety battle on the green.

Kyren Wilson Eyes Maiden Masters Title
In the other semi-final, Kyren Wilson achieved a notable 6-3 victory over world number one Judd Trump. Wilson showcased his consistency and precision, making breaks of 61, 89, 60, 76, 88, and 85 before clinching his win with a century. This match was the fourth time Wilson and Trump faced off this season. Although Trump was slightly favored due to his wins in the Xi'an Grand Prix and Northern Ireland Open finals, he struggled against Wilson's relentless pressure. After leveling the score at 2-2, Trump made critical mistakes in the later frames, allowing Wilson to take control and win four consecutive frames. Reflecting on his performance, Wilson remarked, "I’ve had an amazing season, but I’m not done yet. Being world champion gives you confidence, and I always fancy my chances."
An Epic Final Awaits
With both players in peak form, the Masters final is set to be an exciting showdown. Murphy aims to secure another title following his 2015 victory, while Wilson, the 2024 Crucible champion, is eager to claim his first Masters title.
The clash between Murphy’s artistry and Wilson’s determination guarantees a fitting finale to this prestigious tournament.
