Pakistan Launches EO-1 Satellite
Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in space innovation with the successful launch of its first locally developed electro-optical satellite, EO-1. The satellite was launched on January 17, 2025, from China's Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, marking a proud moment for the nation and its journey into space.
The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) celebrated this achievement with a grand event in Islamabad. Officials highlighted the satellite’s potential to transform various sectors, including disaster management, agriculture, urban planning, and natural resource monitoring.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Space Capabilities
Suparco spokesperson Mushtaq Hussaini referred to the EO-1 satellite as a groundbreaking development in Pakistan’s space history. “This locally developed tool will enable us to predict natural disasters and manage natural resources effectively,” he said. The satellite was developed in partnership with China, reflecting the strong bilateral ties in technological advancements.
The EO-1’s capability to provide high-resolution imagery will greatly assist in food security, water management, and urban planning. It is designed to support government initiatives aimed at addressing environmental challenges while optimizing resource allocation for sustainable growth.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the nation on this remarkable achievement. In a congratulatory message, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan described the EO-1 launch as monumental. He emphasized its advanced technology and its contributions to sectors such as environmental monitoring, agriculture, and defense. “This marks a significant step forward in our space development journey,” Khan stated.
