James Anderson Extends Career with Lancashire for 2025 Season

England’s legendary fast bowler, James Anderson, has revealed that he will extend his remarkable career by signing a one-year contract with Lancashire for the 2025 season. The 42-year-old, who stepped away from international cricket in July 2024, is set to concentrate on the County Championship and the T20 Blast, marking his return to T20 cricket after a ten-year break.

A New Chapter in Anderson's Career

Anderson shared his excitement about continuing his cricketing journey. "I’m very excited," he remarked. "While I’m still fit enough and young enough, I want to play." With 704 Test wickets amassed over a 21-year international career, Anderson’s move to county cricket is not surprising, as he remains eager to contribute to the game at the domestic level.

The Lancashire icon has taken 1,126 wickets in 298 first-class matches, with 376 of those coming from 95 appearances for his home club. His choice to stay with Lancashire highlights his commitment to the team and his desire to give his all during the summer season.

Balancing Coaching and Playing

Alongside his playing duties, Anderson will maintain his role as a bowling consultant for the England team during the Champions Trophy in February and March. However, he emphasized that his main focus during the summer will be on Lancashire.

"I don’t think it would be fair on Lancashire if I just dipped in and out," Anderson explained. "It’s only fair that I give it a good crack, and that’ll take precedence over anything else during the summer." His dedication highlights his determination to make a significant contribution to the club’s success.

A Return to T20 Cricket

The 2025 season will mark Anderson's return to T20 cricket for the first time since 2014. His addition to Lancashire’s T20 Blast squad brings valuable experience and depth to the team, enhancing their prospects for success in the tournament.

Lancashire will kick off their County Championship Division Two campaign against Middlesex at Lord’s on April 4. Their T20 Blast season is set to begin on May 29 with a home match against Worcestershire.

A Legacy That Continues

Since making his first-class debut for Lancashire in 2002, Anderson has been a key player in English cricket. His choice to keep playing reflects his deep passion for the game and his commitment to contributing at the domestic level.

"I’ve known for many months that I wanted to play cricket," Anderson shared. "After discussing plans with Lancashire for the year, it felt like the right decision."

As Anderson prepares for another season, fans can eagerly anticipate seeing one of cricket’s legends in action again, displaying his extraordinary talent and love for the sport.
